Overview

Registered in 1999, *Hosta* 'Ann Kulpa' is a medium-sized cultivar derived from a hybrid of *H.* 'Pin Stripe Sister'. Its most distinctive feature is the creamy white leaf center bordered by a wide, dark green, slightly rippled margin, creating a strong variegation pattern.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a mound-like clump reaching 20 inches (50.8 cm) in height and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter, with a fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its medium size makes it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shade gardens. The creamy white scapes, reaching 24 to 30 inches (61.0 to 76.2 cm) in height, provide vertical interest above the foliage.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, particularly in warmer climates. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many hostas, 'Ann Kulpa' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor accordingly in typical hosta-growing zones.
