Overview

Registered in 1996 by the Missouri Botanical Garden (registrant P. Ruh), *Hosta* 'Louie' is a miniature cultivar of unknown parentage. It is visually distinctive for its narrow, heavily rippled leaves with medium green margins and a dull upper surface, forming a compact mound.

In the Garden

'Houie' reaches a mature diameter of 8 inches (20.3 cm) and a height of 3.5 inches (8.9 cm), with a slow growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for miniature hostas, and is well suited to rock gardens, troughs, or container plantings where its small scale can be appreciated. Companion plants might include small ferns or dwarf sedges that share similar moisture and light requirements.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor regularly and manage as needed.
