Overview

Registered in 1996 by P. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Front Forty' is a miniature cultivar of unknown parentage. Its distinctive appearance derives from narrow, variegated leaves with medium green, slightly rippled margins and a dull upper surface contrasting with a very shiny underside.

In the Garden

'Front Forty' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 9.5 inches (24.1 cm) in diameter and 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. It is suitable for shaded or partially shaded positions in typical hosta-growing zones and performs well in rock gardens, troughs, or the front of borders due to its small stature. The miniature size also makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be monitored.
