Registered in 2000 by an unknown hybridizer, 'Lakeside Maverick' is a giant variegated hosta notable for its substantial mound of dark green leaves with slightly rippled margins. The foliage exhibits a slight sheen on the upper surface and a dull finish beneath, with cordate leaf bases and 17 pairs of veins.

In the Garden

With a mature spread of 84 inches (213.4 cm) and a height of 36 inches (91.4 cm), this fast-growing cultivar forms a dense, mounding clump suitable for large borders or as a specimen plant in partial to full shade. Its substantial leaves pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast with its dark green variegated foliage. The scapes, reaching 38 to 44 inches (96.5 to 111.8 cm) in height, carry flowers above the foliage.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during dry periods and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Lakeside Maverick' is susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
