Overview

Registered in 2005 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Krinkle Twist', 'Krinkle Sister' is a large, upright cultivar distinguished by its heavily corrugated, nearly round leaves with a yellow center and broad, slightly rippled blue-green margins. The leaf surface is slightly shiny above with a glaucous bloom beneath, and the deep corrugation (krinkling) extends into the margin, creating a twisted appearance that persists through the growing season.

In the Garden

Mature plants reach 27 inches (68.6 cm) in height and 32 inches (81.3 cm) in diameter, with an upright growth habit and moderate growth rate. This cultivar performs best in partial to full shade, where the yellow leaf centers hold their color without scorching. Its heavy leaf substance and bold variegation make it a strong accent in shaded borders or woodland gardens, pairing well with ferns, *Heuchera*, and other shade-tolerant perennials. The glaucous green scapes, reaching 29 to 31 inches (73.7 to 78.7 cm), bear lavender flowers in midsummer.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during establishment and throughout the growing season, applying a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring. Like most hostas, 'Krinkle Sister' is susceptible to slug and deer damage, though its heavy-textured leaves offer some resistance.
