Overview

Registered in 1999, *Hosta* 'Kiwi Black Magic' is a medium-sized hybrid resulting from a cross between *H. sieboldiana* and *H. ventricosa*. This cultivar is visually distinctive for its dark green, slightly rippled leaves with a dull upper surface and a slightly shiny underside, combined with a rounded leaf base and dark green scapes flecked with burgundy.

In the Garden

'Kiwi Black Magic' forms a mound-like clump reaching approximately 20 inches (50 cm) in diameter and 14 inches (35 cm) in height, with a fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and pairs well with other shade-tolerant perennials such as ferns, heucheras, and astilbes. Its medium size makes it suitable for border fronts, woodland gardens, or shaded container plantings.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges.
