Overview
Registered in 1997 by P. Ruh, this large hosta is a hybrid of *Hosta sieboldiana*. Its most distinctive feature is the intensely blue-green foliage with slightly rippled margins, borne on a mound-like plant of substantial proportions.
In the Garden
'Hosta' performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved cultivars, where its leaf color remains truest. At maturity, it forms a mound 28 inches (71.1 cm) in diameter and 17 inches (43.2 cm) high, with leaves measuring 9 inches (22.9 cm) long by 7.8 inches (19.8 cm) wide. Its moderate growth rate and large size make it suitable as a specimen or in the middle to back of shaded borders, paired with ferns or fine-textured perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during dry periods; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. While slug resistance is not documented, blue-leaved hostas are generally less susceptible than gold or variegated forms; deer may browse foliage in spring.
