Overview

Registered in 1997 by E. Smith and introduced by P. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Nordatlantik' is a large, mound-forming cultivar derived from a cross between *H.* 'Dorset Clown' and *H.* 'Dorset Flair'. It is visually distinctive for its intensely blue-green leaves with flat margins, dull surfaces on both sides, and cordate leaf bases.

In the Garden

'Nordatlantik' forms a slow-growing mound reaching approximately 30.5 inches (77.5 cm) in diameter and 14 inches (35.6 cm) in height. Its large leaves—10 inches (25.4 cm) long and 8.5 inches (21.6 cm) wide with 16 pairs of veins—make it suitable as a specimen or in mixed shade borders. The blue-green foliage pairs well with golden or chartreuse-leaved companions such as *H.* 'Sum and Substance' or *Carex elata* 'Aurea'. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for blue-leaved hostas.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during dry periods and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most large-leaved hostas, 'Nordatlantik' is susceptible to slug damage and may require protection in damp conditions. Its slow growth rate reduces the need for frequent division.
