Overview

Registered in 2008, 'Jigger's Gift' is a medium-sized Tardiana-type hosta of unknown parentage, notable for its intensely blue-green, broadly ovate leaves with flat margins and a folded surface. The leaves, measuring 8 inches (20.3 cm) long and 6.5 inches (16.5 cm) wide with 12 to 13 vein pairs, are dull on both top and underside, and the plant forms an upright mound reaching 22 inches (55.9 cm) in height and 44 inches (111.8 cm) in diameter.

In the Garden

'Jigger's Gift' is a vigorous grower that tolerates more sun than typical blue-leaved hostas, holding its intense blue color well into autumn. Its upright habit and medium size make it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in partly shaded beds, where it pairs effectively with ferns or other shade perennials. The plant's green scapes, 15 to 24 inches (38.1 to 61.0 cm) tall, bear typical lavender flowers in summer.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. While the leaves show good sun tolerance, standard slug and deer precautions are advisable in typical hosta-growing zones.
