Overview

Registered in 2000, *Hosta* 'Jen' is a medium-sized cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, derived from a seedling of *Hosta* 'Yellow Splash'. It is visually distinguished by its very glossy, dark green leaves with wide, creamy white, heavily rippled margins, and its upright, mounding habit.

In the Garden

'Jen' performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and reaches a mature size of 24 inches (61 cm) in height and 36 inches (91 cm) in diameter. Its moderate growth rate and upright form make it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shaded beds. It pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials; its substantial size also suits it for large containers.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are recommended, as the glossy foliage may be attractive to these pests.
