Overview
Registered in 2001 by Paul and Jean Ruh, *Hosta* 'Jade Lancer' is a medium-sized cultivar of unknown parentage. Its most distinctive feature is the irregular, white leaf margin that transitions through several shades of green before reaching the darker leaf center, creating a subtle variegation effect.
In the Garden
'Jade Lancer' forms an open mound reaching 13 inches (33 cm) in height and 32 inches (81 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its light green leaves with white margins provide contrast against darker-leaved companions such as *Heuchera* or ferns. The 30- to 32-inch (76–81 cm) scapes bear light green flowers in summer.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor and manage as needed.
