Overview
Registered in 1988 by BHHS, *Hosta* 'Happiness' is a small-sized cultivar of the Tardiana Group, distinguished by its blue-green foliage with narrow blue margins. The leaves are ovate, measuring 5.5 inches (14.0 cm) in length and 3.75 inches (9.5 cm) in width, with ten pairs of veins.
In the Garden
'Happiness' forms a compact mound 12 inches (30.5 cm) tall and 21 inches (53.3 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container cultivation. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, and pairs well with other small shade perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Tiarella*. Its small stature and tidy habit also suit trough gardens or shaded patio pots.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as the foliage may be palatable to both pests.
