Overview

Registered in 1988 by E. Smith and the BHHS, *Hosta* 'Blue Danube' is a small cultivar derived from the *H. Tardiana* Group. It is visually distinguished by its rounded, blue-green leaves with thin, lighter margins and a compact, mounded habit.

In the Garden

'Blue Danube' reaches a mature diameter of 12 inches (30.5 cm) and a height of 7 inches (17.8 cm), making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or as a groundcover in partial to full shade. Its small size also makes it an excellent candidate for container cultivation. Companion plants that appreciate similar conditions include ferns, *Heuchera*, and small woodland perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard precautions against slugs and deer are recommended, as both can damage the foliage.
