H. ‘Hadspen Mystique’

Overview

Registered in 2003 by P. & J. Ruh from an unknown English originator, *Hosta* 'Hadspen Mystique' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its long, lance-shaped leaves with dark green, slightly rippled margins, a lightly twisted and folded form, and a prominent curled tip. The leaf surface is slightly shiny above and very shiny beneath, with six prominent vein pairs.

In the Garden

'Hadspen Mystique' forms a mound-like clump reaching 28 inches (71.1 cm) in diameter and 13.5 inches (34.3 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, as typical for variegated hostas, and its late-flowering green scapes produce pendulant flowers. The plant's long, narrow leaves make it suitable for mid-border positions or as a textural accent alongside ferns, heucheras, or other shade perennials.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, applying fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, protect from slugs and deer, particularly when foliage is young.
