Overview
Registered in 2005 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Merry Sunshine', 'Glowing Sparklers' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its blue-green leaves with creamy white margins that exhibit variable streaking in cream, medium green, light green, greenish-yellow, pale yellow, and yellow. The broadly ovate, lightly cupped leaves are slightly shiny above with a glaucous bloom beneath, and the white leaf backs contribute to a multicolored display.
In the Garden
'Glowing Sparklers' forms an upright clump reaching approximately 21 inches (53.3 cm) in height and 17 inches (43.2 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, where the variegation remains most stable, and is suitable for the middle of a border or as a specimen in shade gardens. Its medium size and upright habit make it appropriate for mixed perennial plantings with ferns, heucheras, or other shade-tolerant companions.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods to maintain consistent moisture, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, protection from slugs and deer may be necessary, particularly on the tender new foliage.
