Overview

Registered in 2013 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Eye Declare', 'Eye Never' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its bright yellow leaf centers with unusually wide, dark green margins. The leaves are ovate, lightly cupped, and measure 7.5 inches (19.1 cm) long by 5 inches (12.7 cm) wide, with the green margin spanning 0.75 to 1 inch (1.9 to 2.5 cm)—notably broader than that of its parent.

In the Garden

'Eye Never' forms a mound-like clump reaching 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height and 33 inches (83.8 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, where the bright yellow centers contrast well with the dark green margins. The chartreuse scapes, 18 to 20 inches (45.7 to 50.8 cm) tall, bear lavender flowers in midsummer. This cultivar pairs effectively with shade-tolerant perennials such as ferns, *Heuchera*, and *Tiarella*.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Eye Never' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor accordingly in typical hosta-growing zones.
