Year registered2005
Section classIV-6a

Overview

Registered in 2005, this small sport of an unnamed parent produces a mound-like clump 12 inches (30.5 cm) tall and 16 inches (40.6 cm) wide. Its leaves are broadly ovate with rounded bases, measuring 7 inches (17.8 cm) long and 4 inches (10.2 cm) wide, and feature a very light yellow, viridescent center surrounded by an irregular medium green margin 0.25 to 0.5 inches (0.6 to 1.3 cm) wide. The leaf surface is moderately corrugated and moderately flat, with slight sheen on both upper and lower surfaces, and 10 to 12 pairs of veins.

In the Garden

‘Eye Declare’ performs best in partial to dappled shade, typical for hostas, where its pale center and green margin contrast well. Its small size suits the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings, and it pairs effectively with finer-textured shade perennials such as ferns or heucheras. The chartreuse scapes rise 18 to 20 inches (45.7 to 50.8 cm) above the foliage.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during dry periods; apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. Slugs and deer may damage foliage, so monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
