Overview
Registered in 1985 by E. Fisher and P. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Eunice Fisher' is a medium-sized variegated cultivar derived from a hybrid of *H. 'Crispula'*. It is visually distinctive for its dark green leaves with slight undulating margins, a trait inherited from its parent, and its broad, rounded leaf shape.
In the Garden
'Eunice Fisher' forms a dense clump reaching 24 inches (61.0 cm) in height and 22 inches (55.9 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for mid-border positions in partial to full shade. Its 7-inch (17.8 cm) long by 5-inch (12.7 cm) wide leaves with 12 vein pairs provide substantial texture, pairing well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. It is not typically recommended for containers due to its medium size.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas with high pest pressure.
