Overview
Registered in 2007, 'Eruption' is a medium-sized hosta cultivar derived from a complex hybrid lineage involving *Hosta* 'Swoosh', *H. longissima*, 'Red Neck Heaven', and 'Elvis Lives', with open-pollinated seed parentage. It is visually distinctive for its intensely blue-green, ovate leaves with a glaucous bloom on both surfaces and slightly rippled margins.
In the Garden
'Eruption' forms a dense, fast-growing mound reaching 13 inches (33.0 cm) in height and 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, and its medium size suits it for mid-border positions or as a groundcover in woodland gardens. Companion plants include ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Water regularly during dry periods, especially in the first growing season, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many hostas, 'Eruption' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor for leaf chewing and apply controls as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
