Overview
Registered in 1995, this medium-sized hybrid resulted from crossing *Hosta* 'Peter Pan' (pod parent) with *Hosta* 'Green Fountain' (pollen parent). 'Elvis Lives' is visually distinctive for its dusty blue-green leaves with slightly rippled margins and a glaucous bloom on the undersides, combined with a compact, mound-like habit.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a dense mound reaching 25 inches (63.5 cm) in height and 48 inches (121.9 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for blue-leaved hostas, where the glaucous bloom persists. The 11-inch-long, 4.5-inch-wide leaves with rounded bases and 8 to 10 vein pairs make it suitable for mid-border positions or as a groundcover beneath deciduous trees. It pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. As with most hostas, protect from slugs and deer, particularly in spring when new foliage is tender.
