Overview
Registered in 1994, *Hosta* 'Emerald Necklace' is a sport of a *H. 'Tardiflora'* seedling. This small cultivar is visually distinctive for its light green leaves with a narrow, dark green, slightly rippled margin and its notably shiny leaf undersides.
In the Garden
With a mature diameter of 16 inches (40.6 cm) and height of 13 inches (33.0 cm), 'Emerald Necklace' forms a semi-upright clump suitable for the front of a border or as edging. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and pairs well with other small shade perennials such as ferns or heucheras. Its compact size also makes it a candidate for container cultivation.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so preventive measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are common.
