Overview

Registered in 2011, 'Doubled Up' is a medium-sized hosta cultivar originating as a sport of an unnamed parent. It is visually distinctive for its nearly round, very shiny leaves with light green margins and a compact, mound-like habit that is more condensed than the species.

In the Garden

'Doubled Up' forms a dense mound 20 inches (50.8 cm) tall and 24 inches (61.0 cm) wide, making it suitable for mid-border positions or as a specimen in shaded beds. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, or other shade-tolerant perennials. Its compact size and glossy foliage also suit container cultivation.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods to maintain consistent soil moisture, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. The thick, glossy leaves offer moderate resistance to slugs, though standard slug control measures may still be needed in damp conditions.
