Overview

Registered in 2000, 'Crystal Chimes' is a medium-sized hosta derived from a hybrid of *Hosta yingeri*. It forms a compact, mounding clump distinguished by dark green leaves with slightly rippled margins and a slight sheen on both surfaces.

In the Garden

This cultivar reaches approximately 10 inches (25.4 cm) in height and spreads to 16 inches (40.6 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the middle to front of a shaded border. It performs best in partial to full shade and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its moderate growth rate and tidy mound form also suit it for rock gardens or small woodland settings.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even soil moisture, particularly during dry periods. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. While hostas are generally susceptible to slugs and deer, 'Crystal Chimes' shows typical resistance for the genus; monitor for slug damage on new foliage and use barriers or bait as needed.
