Overview
Registered in 2012, *Hosta* 'Cosmic Pistol' is a medium-sized cultivar resulting from a cross between *H.* 'Pistol' (pod parent) and *H.* 'Misty May' (pollen parent). Its most distinctive feature is the blue-green leaf center with creamy white to pale yellow margins, further marked by light green streaking and a slightly rippled edge.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a mound-like clump reaching 18 inches (45.7 cm) in height and 34 inches (86.4 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and its good leaf substance provides reasonable durability. The broadly ovate, lightly cupped leaves with a glaucous underside pair well with ferns, astilbes, or other shade perennials that complement its blue-green and cream coloration.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, protect from slugs and deer, which may damage the foliage.
