Overview
Registered in 2011, *Hosta* 'Cosmic Little Elf' is a small, mound-forming cultivar arising from a cross between *Hosta* 'Dorset Clown' and *Hosta* 'Purple Verticulated Elf'. It is visually distinctive for its ovate, twisted, wavy leaves that are very shiny on the upper surface and bear streaked greenish yellow, greenish white, and creamy white flat margins against a green center.
In the Garden
Reaching approximately 18 inches (45.7 cm) in diameter and 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) in height, this slow-growing cultivar is well suited to the front of a shaded border, rock garden, or container. It performs best in partial to full shade and pairs effectively with small ferns, heucheras, or other diminutive hostas. Its compact size and glossy foliage make it an excellent choice for troughs or small pots.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in gardens where these pests are prevalent.
