Overview
'Time Traveler' (2010) is a streaked hosta with a greenish yellow margin. The registry describes the leaf as "streaked with creamy white and medium green", edged by a slightly rippled margin 1.2 in (3.0 cm) wide; the notable characteristics read "white rings around inner green and outer chartreuse". The entry records it as a sport, but the parent's name is not filled in. It carries plant patent PP32,960.
In the Garden
It is registered as a mound-like plant 21 in (53.3 cm) high and 33 in (83.8 cm) in diameter, with a slow growth rate. The leaves are small, 5 in (12.7 cm) long and 4 in (10.2 cm) wide, elliptic with a rounded base, lightly folded, with 4 to 6 vein pairs. The upper surface is dull and the underside slightly shiny.
How it compares
'Stars and Stripes' (2000), in the same show class, has a medium blue green streaked leaf of 5.5 in (14.0 cm) by 4.5 in (11.4 cm) with a glaucous bloom on top. It is registered as a lower mound, 12 in (30.5 cm) high and 26 in (66.0 cm) across, with a moderate growth rate and scapes of 15 to 18 in (38.1 to 45.7 cm). Its pod parent is recorded as a hybrid of 'Color Fantasy'.
'Lodikito' (2013) is smaller again, 14.375 in (36.5 cm) high and 23.125 in (58.7 cm) across. Its dark green leaf carries pale yellow and creamy streaks, measures 6 in (15.2 cm) by 4.25 in (10.8 cm) and is dull on both sides. Choose 'Lodikito' for a compact streaked plant; 'Time Traveler' is registered taller and wider, with a distinct greenish yellow margin around the streaked center.
