Overview
Registered in 2010 as an open-pollinated seedling of *Hosta* 'Venetian Blue', 'Azure Frills' is a medium-sized cultivar distinguished by its intensely blue-green, heavily rippled and frilled leaf margins. The ovate leaves, measuring 9 inches (22.9 cm) long by 6 inches (15.2 cm) wide, bear a glaucous bloom on both surfaces and exhibit 9 to 11 pairs of veins.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a semi-upright clump reaching 15 inches (38.1 cm) in height and 33 inches (83.8 cm) in diameter, with a fast growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the blue-green coloration is most pronounced, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its compact, mounding habit makes it suitable for border fronts, woodland gardens, or shaded containers.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through appropriate barriers or deterrents.
