Registered in 1987 by H. A. Zager and P. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Zager Green Rim' is a small-sized variegated cultivar of unknown parentage. It is distinguished by its grassy green leaves with dark green margins and slight ruffling along the leaf edges.

In the Garden

This compact hosta reaches 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height and spreads to 21 inches (53.3 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or as an edging plant. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its variegated foliage remains most vibrant. Given its small size, it is well-suited for container cultivation and pairs effectively with other shade-tolerant perennials such as ferns or heucheras.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, particularly during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it may be susceptible to slug and deer damage in garden settings.
