Overview

Registered in 2009 by K. Walek for the American Hosta Society, *Hosta* 'Yellow Blade' is a small sport of *H.* 'Yellow Splash'. It is visually distinctive for its ovate, shiny green leaves with golden yellow margins, a compact mound-like habit, and green scapes.

In the Garden

'Yellow Blade' reaches 14 inches (35.6 cm) in height and 20 inches (50.8 cm) in diameter, forming a moderate-growing mound. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas, and is well suited to small borders, rock gardens, or container culture due to its small size. Companion plants include ferns, tiarella, or other small shade perennials.

Care Notes

Water regularly to maintain even moisture, especially during dry spells. Fertilize in early spring with a balanced, slow-release formulation. As with many hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor and manage as needed.
