Overview
Registered in 2009, *Hosta* 'Aomori Gold' is a small-sized sport of an unnamed parent, distinguished by its green leaves with pale yellow margins. The ovate leaves, measuring 6 inches (15.2 cm) long and 3 inches (7.6 cm) wide, have a slightly shiny upper surface and a very shiny underside, with 7 to 8 vein pairs and a rounded base.
In the Garden
With a mature diameter of 28 inches (71.1 cm) and height of 14 inches (35.6 cm), this cultivar forms an upright, moderate-growing clump suitable for the front of a shade border or woodland garden. Its small size makes it an excellent candidate for containers, where the pale yellow margins contrast well with darker green companions such as ferns or *Heuchera*. It performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be monitored.
