Overview

Registered in 2011 from unknown parentage, *Hosta* 'Wood Monster' is a giant, fast-growing cultivar notable for its substantial dimensions and variegated foliage. The leaves are broadly ovate with cordate bases, featuring medium green centers with slightly rippled margins and a slightly shiny upper surface, while the scape reaches 40 to 48 inches (101.6 to 121.9 cm) in height.

In the Garden

'Wood Monster' forms an upright, spreading clump 44 inches (111.8 cm) in diameter and 32 inches (81.3 cm) tall, making it suitable as a specimen or focal point in partial to full shade. Its large, bold leaves pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials that contrast in texture and scale. Due to its giant size, it is not recommended for containers and requires ample garden space to reach its full spread.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many large-leaved hostas, it may be susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitor and manage as needed in typical hosta-growing zones.
