Overview
Registered in 2000 by A. Malloy, this small blue-green hosta of unknown parentage is distinguished by its compact mound form and slightly shiny, cordate leaves with subtly lighter blue-green margins. The foliage displays eight vein pairs and a slightly shiny underside, with green scapes reaching 16 to 18 inches (40.6 to 45.7 cm) in height.
In the Garden
'Hosta 'Verkade's Two' forms a tidy mound 18 inches (45.7 cm) in diameter and 7 inches (17.8 cm) tall, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where its blue-green coloration remains most pronounced. Suitable companions include small ferns, heucheras, and other miniature hostas; its compact size makes it an excellent choice for rock gardens, troughs, or container plantings.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. As with most hostas, monitor for slug and deer damage, particularly in shaded, moist conditions.
