Overview
Registered in 2004, 'Starship' is a sport of *Hosta* 'Captain Kirk' notable as a reversed mutation of its parent. This small cultivar produces medium green leaves with creamy white margins, the inverse of 'Captain Kirk's' gold-centered, green-margined foliage.
In the Garden
Mature plants reach small dimensions, with leaves measuring 6 inches (15.2 cm) long and 4.5 inches (11.4 cm) wide. Suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones, 'Starship' works well in rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. Its compact habit pairs effectively with small ferns, heucheras, and miniature epimediums, and it performs admirably in containers.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season; apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new shoots emerge. Like most hostas, 'Starship' is susceptible to slug and deer damage and benefits from protective measures in areas where these pests are prevalent.
