Overview

Registered in 2005, *Hosta* 'Stand-up America' is a large, upright sport of *Hosta* 'Dorothy Benedict' distinguished by its blue-green leaves with wide, heavily rippled, greenish-gold margins. The foliage is nearly round with cordate bases, moderately corrugated, and exhibits a slight gloss on the upper surface with a glaucous bloom beneath.

In the Garden

This cultivar reaches 27 inches (68.6 cm) in height and 36 inches (91.4 cm) in diameter, with a notably upright growth habit and moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to dappled shade, where its blue-green centers and gold margins hold color well; excessive sun may scorch the leaf edges. The substantial leaf size and bold variegation make it a strong specimen or accent plant in mixed borders, and its upright scapes, reaching 32 to 37 inches (81.3 to 94.0 cm), carry glaucous green flowers that rise above the foliage.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture during dry periods, particularly in warmer climates, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as growth emerges. As with most large-leaved hostas, slug and deer damage may occur and should be managed through standard horticultural practices in typical hosta-growing zones.
