Overview

Registered in 2002 by P. Ruh, *Hosta* 'Seto-no-aki' is a small, mound-forming cultivar of unknown parentage. It is distinguished by its ovate, blue-green leaves with dark green, slightly rippled margins, a very shiny upper surface, and a glaucous bloom beneath; the leaves are moderately cupped, lightly twisted, and lightly wavy, with nine prominent vein pairs.

In the Garden

Mature plants reach approximately 29 inches (73.7 cm) in diameter and 14.5 inches (36.8 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. It is suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or containers, and performs best in partial to full shade, as is typical for hostas. Its compact size and glossy foliage make it a useful accent among finer-textured shade perennials such as ferns or heucheras.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable, as with most hostas.
