H. ‘Scooter’

Overview

Registered in 1990 by H. & D. Benedict, this small hosta cultivar originated as a hybrid of *Hosta* 'Yellow Splash'. It is visually distinctive for its compact mound of dark green leaves with white to creamy white margins, typically displaying six pairs of veins per leaf.

In the Garden

*Hosta* 'Scooter' reaches a mature spread of approximately 14 inches (35.6 cm) and a height of 8 inches (20.3 cm). It performs best in partial to full shade and is well-suited for rock gardens, edging, or container culture due to its small stature. Companion plants include other small shade perennials such as *Heuchera* or ferns.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced slow-release fertilizer in early spring. Like many hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage; monitoring and protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
