Overview
Registered in 1990 by H. & D. Benedict, 'Crested Surf' is a small hosta distinguished by its green leaves with creamy white, undulated margins. The leaf margins are notably wavy, contributing to the cultivar's common visual association with surf or cresting water.
In the Garden
This small hosta reaches approximately 5 inches (12.7 cm) in height and spreads to 8 inches (20.3 cm) in diameter. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for the genus, and is well-suited to rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. Due to its compact size, it is an excellent candidate for container cultivation. Companion plants might include small ferns, heucheras, or other miniature hostas.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent soil moisture, especially during dry periods. Apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with many hostas, slug and deer damage may occur; monitor and manage as needed.
