H. ‘Satin Flare’

Overview

Registered in 1971 by E. Fisher, this large hosta cultivar arose as a hybrid of *Hosta* 'Golden Anniversary'. It is distinguished by its substantial blue-green leaves with contrasting margins, forming a dense, mounded clump.

In the Garden

'Satin Flare' reaches a mature spread of approximately 40 inches (102 cm) and a height of 20 inches (51 cm), making it suitable for mid-border or specimen placement in partial to full shade. Its large, textured leaves pair well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. The plant produces scapes up to 30 inches (76 cm) tall, though flower height may vary.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard slug and deer precautions are advisable in typical hosta-growing zones.
