Overview
Registered in 2006 from unknown parentage, *Hosta* 'Risa' is a miniature cultivar distinguished by its compact mound of ovate, variegated leaves with medium green margins and a slightly shiny upper surface. The plant produces scapes reaching 33 to 42 cm (13–16.5 in) in height, bearing green stems dotted with red.
In the Garden
'Hosta' forms a dense, fast-growing mound approximately 32.5 cm (12.8 in) in diameter and 17 cm (6.7 in) tall, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container culture. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical of hosta-growing zones, and pairs well with other miniature perennials such as *Heuchera* or *Tiarella*. Its small stature and tidy habit also suit trough gardens or shaded patio pots.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, applying a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Risa' may be browsed by deer and is susceptible to slug damage in damp conditions.
