Overview

Registered in 1998, 'Owen Online' is a sport of *Hosta* 'Fortunei Aureomarginata' distinguished by its reversed coloration: golden yellow leaf centers with dark green, slightly rippled margins. The small, mound-forming plant reaches 7 inches (17.8 cm) in height and 20 inches (50.8 cm) in diameter, with leaves measuring 6 inches (15.2 cm) long and 4 inches (10.2 cm) wide, bearing eight vein pairs.

In the Garden

This compact hosta performs best in partial to full shade, forming a tidy mound suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or woodland edges. Its small stature makes it an excellent choice for container cultivation. The blue-green undersides of the leaves, which carry a glaucous bloom, provide subtle contrast to the golden centers and dark green margins. Companion plants such as ferns, heucheras, or small shade-tolerant perennials complement its restrained habit.

Care Notes

Water regularly during dry periods, particularly in the first growing season. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Owen Online' is susceptible to slug and deer damage; protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
