Overview

Registered in 2005 as a sport of *Hosta* 'Lakeside Black Satin', 'Midnight Storm' is a small, slow-growing cultivar distinguished by its dark green, broadly ovate leaves with irregular streaking of lighter green or yellow. The leaves are lightly twisted and folded, with slightly rippled margins and a cordate base, presenting a textured, heart-shaped appearance.

In the Garden

'Midnight Storm' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 8 inches (20.3 cm) in height and 20 inches (50.8 cm) in diameter, making it suitable for the front of borders, rock gardens, or container plantings. It thrives in partial to full shade, as typical for hostas, and pairs well with ferns, heucheras, or small shade perennials that complement its dark foliage.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, 'Midnight Storm' is susceptible to slug damage; monitor for pests and use barriers or controls as needed. Deer may browse the foliage.
