Overview
Registered in 2005 as a seedling of *Hosta* 'William Lachman' with unknown pollen parent, 'Cutie Pie' is a small-sized hosta distinguished by its dark green leaves streaked with greenish yellow, pale yellow, and creamy white, with flat white margins. The broadly ovate leaves, measuring 4 inches (10.2 cm) long and 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) wide, exhibit a slightly shiny upper surface and very shiny underside, with light waviness, light corrugation, and a moderately unruly habit.
In the Garden
'Cutie Pie' forms a compact, mound-like clump reaching 6 inches (15.2 cm) in height and 12 inches (30.5 cm) in diameter, with a moderate growth rate. It is suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones, and its small stature makes it an excellent candidate for rock gardens, troughs, or the front of shaded borders. Companion plants include small ferns, miniature epimediums, or low-growing sedges that complement its diminutive scale.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture during the growing season, and apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, monitor for slug and deer damage, particularly in shaded, moist settings.
