Overview

Registered in 2001, *Hosta* 'Memento' is a medium-sized cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, with *H.* 'Placemat' as the pod parent. It is visually distinctive for its intensely cupped, wavy, and corrugated broadly ovate leaves, which are green with greenish-gold margins that become very gold late in summer.

In the Garden

'Memento' forms a dense, mound-like clump reaching 14 inches (35.6 cm) in height and 20 inches (50.8 cm) in diameter. It tolerates afternoon sun better than many hostas, making it suitable for sites with partial shade to some direct sun. Its compact habit and textured foliage pair well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade perennials; it is not typically recommended for containers due to its medium size.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Slug and deer resistance is not documented for this cultivar, so standard protective measures may be necessary in typical hosta-growing zones.
