Overview
Registered in 2001, *Hosta* 'Jack and Margaret's Keynote' is a medium-sized cultivar of unknown pollen parentage, with *Hosta* 'Shunko Nishiki' as the pod parent. The plant is visually distinctive for its ovate, heavily rippled leaves with golden yellow margins and a very shiny surface on both the top and underside, as well as its bird-like flower buds.
In the Garden
This hosta forms a slow-growing, mound-like clump reaching approximately 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter and 11 inches (27.9 cm) in height. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for gold-margined cultivars, where the leaf coloration remains most vivid. The wavy-edged foliage pairs well with ferns, heucheras, or other shade-tolerant perennials; its medium size makes it suitable for border fronts or woodland garden settings.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like many hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in areas where these pests are prevalent.
