Year registered2009
Section classIII-4b (Medium)

Overview

Registered in 2009 from a seedling of unknown parentage, 'Mary-Mary' is a medium-sized hosta distinguished by its dark green leaves with creamy white margins and notably wavy leaf margins. The ovate leaves are slightly shiny on the upper surface and very shiny beneath, with a flat, creamy white margin ranging from 0.3 to 1.3 cm wide.

In the Garden

This cultivar forms a dense mound 30.5 cm high and 81.3 cm in diameter, with scapes reaching 68.6 to 76.2 cm. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the dark green leaf centers and white margins maintain good contrast. The medium size and mound habit make it suitable for the middle of a shade border or as a specimen plant; it pairs well with ferns, heucheras, and other shade-tolerant perennials.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard hosta care applies: monitor for slugs and deer, which may damage the foliage, particularly in early spring when leaves are tender.
