Overview

Registered in 1990 by M. Chastain, this small hosta cultivar is a sport of *Hosta* 'Janet'. It is visually distinctive for its green leaves with gold margins, a coloration described in the registry as yellow-green margins on a green blade.

In the Garden

'Hosta 'Lakeside Shadows' reaches a mature size of 12 inches (30.5 cm) in height and 25 inches (63.5 cm) in diameter, with individual leaves measuring 5 inches (12.7 cm) long and 3.5 inches (8.9 cm) wide, bearing 8 to 9 pairs of veins. As a small hosta, it is well suited for the front of a shaded border, rock gardens, or container culture. It performs best in partial to full shade and pairs naturally with other small woodland perennials such as ferns or heucheras.

Care Notes

Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it may be susceptible to slug and deer damage in typical hosta-growing zones.
