Overview
Registered in 1981 by R. O'Harra as a sport of *Hosta* 'Fortunei', 'Janet' is a small-sized cultivar distinguished by its chartreuse green leaves with gold margins. The leaves measure 7 inches (17.8 cm) long and 4 inches (10.2 cm) wide, with seven pairs of veins, and the plant forms a compact mound 15 inches (38.1 cm) tall and 24 inches (61.0 cm) in diameter.
In the Garden
'Janet' is suited for partial to full shade, typical of most hostas, and its small stature makes it ideal for rock gardens, container plantings, or the front of a shaded border. The gold-margined leaves provide subtle contrast when paired with darker green ferns or fine-textured groundcovers such as *Lamium* or *Vinca minor*. Its compact size allows for placement in small garden spaces or as an edging plant along pathways.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. As with most hostas, monitor for slug and deer damage in susceptible areas.
