Overview
Registered in 1999, *Hosta* 'King's Ransom' is a large, mound-forming cultivar derived from a hybrid of *H. 'Sun Power'*. It is visually distinctive for its broad, cordate-based leaves of deep green with wide, greenish-yellow, slightly rippled margins, and a dull surface on both sides.
In the Garden
'King's Ransom' forms a substantial mound reaching 56 inches (142.2 cm) in diameter and 16 inches (40.6 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, where the gold margins hold their color without scorching. Its large leaves and dense habit make it suitable as a specimen or in the middle to back of a shaded border, paired with ferns or other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture, especially during dry periods. Fertilize in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage and may require protective measures in areas where these pests are prevalent.
