Overview
A sport of an unidentified parent, registered in 1999, *Hosta* 'Crystal Fountain' is a large, fast-growing cultivar distinguished by its upright, fountain-like habit and heavily textured foliage. The leaves are green with golden yellow margins, strongly cupped, and exhibit a very shiny surface on both sides.
In the Garden
Reaching 24 inches (61 cm) in height and spread, 'Crystal Fountain' forms a substantial, upright clump suitable for partial to full shade in typical hosta-growing zones. Its large, glossy leaves and tall scapes (25 to 35 inches, or 63.5 to 88.9 cm) make it an effective specimen or accent plant in woodland borders and shade gardens. It pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Like most hostas, it is susceptible to slug and deer damage, so protective measures may be necessary in high-pressure areas.
