Overview
Registered in 1999 by an unknown breeder, *Hosta* 'Golden Ripples' is a large cultivar distinguished by its green leaf centers and heavily rippled, greenish-yellow margins. The leaves are slightly shiny on the upper surface and dull beneath, with cordate bases and 10 to 14 pairs of veins.
In the Garden
This cultivar forms a substantial clump reaching 30 inches (76.2 cm) in diameter and 15 inches (38.1 cm) in height, with a moderate growth rate. It performs best in partial to full shade, typical for hostas, and pairs well with ferns, astilbes, and other shade-tolerant perennials. Its large size makes it suitable as a specimen or in the middle to back of a shaded border.
Care Notes
Provide consistent moisture, especially during dry periods, and apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring as new growth emerges. Standard precautions against slugs and deer are recommended, as both can damage the foliage.
